Acer was founded in 1987 under the name 'Multitech', with capital of $25,000 and 11 employees. It was renamed 'Acer' in 1987 and in the next 10 years grew to become one of the top 10 PC Vendors.

In 2010 Acer's Worldwide turnover was $19 billion with 8,000 employees. In a recent Gartner analysis of market share, Acer were ranked Worldwide no.2 for PC sales and no.2 for laptop sales. In the EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) they were no.2 for PC sales and no.1 for laptops.

Acer are a Tier 1 partner for the 2012 Olympic games and will be providing 11,000 PCs, 700 laptops, 1,500 touch screens and 925 servers and storage devices.

Acer's success and growth has been achieved by providing well designed and reliable products which are very competitively priced.

The on-going developments which are helping to maintain Acer's edge include laptops with a magnesium chassis to provide rigidity, dust defender protection of the CPU, spill proof keyboards and significantly improved battery performance. To demonstrate their confidence some PCs and laptops are now shipping with a standard 1 year or 3 year on-site warranty, dependant of course upon the market segment that the product is designed for.
